Evaluation 7

I believe I have learnt a great deal since the preliminary task. The first is how to use a green screen. We did not include one in the preliminary task as we did not know how to use one, however we included the use of green screen in “Sweet Revenge” as this was needed to make the suicide look realistic, as we couldn’t have the actor actually jumping off the bridge.
I think this looks very effective as it is hard to tell that a green screen is used.

We’ve also learnt how effective colour correction can be. Making the shot look brighter can connote happiness, and darkening it can make it look depressing, we did both of these in sweet revenge, and didn’t in the preliminary task as we didn’t see the importance of it.

On the picture on the left the colours have been brightened to show the happiness that both characters feel with each other, however we did not make it too bright as it is a reflection and memories are not usually in bright colours.
On the picture on the right the colours have been made darker as the character is about to kill himself, and is extremely depressed, so bright colours would not be appropriate.
Colour correction could have been used here for make it seem brighter as both characters are happy to be in each others company as they are friends and at the moment the colours are quite dull.

I have also learnt how music can create impact. None was used in the preliminary production, and some parts are quite tedious and boring. There is music throughout “Sweet Revenge”, and different music is used in the different scenes so to create a different atmosphere. This also will help to keep the audience completely interested and focused on what is occurring in the scenes. Softer music is used when Joe is about to jump, as this can sound both romantic for the flashbacks, and make the audience sympathise for Joe who is about to kill himself. Slightly faster, darker music is used in the next seen, as this helps create the calm anger Kym feels, she is not raging and shouting, so loud fast music is not needed, instead she is silently plotting revenge, and this music fits this.

We also learnt how to properly do a shot-reverse-shot, as we only have half a shot reverse shot in the preliminary production but a complete one in “Sweet Revenge”

We go from a close up of Kym, cut to the computer screen, then back to Kym.
An incomplete shot reverse shot

In both productions, we stick to the 180 degree rule. In “Sweet Revenge” we see Kym and Joe from their left, and then track around them, so we are able to see them from their right without breaking the 180 degree rule and making the audience feel disoriented. We did stick to the 180 degree rule in the preliminary production, however we did not track around the characters so we could see them from the other side. This is more advanced and we managed it in Sweet Revenge.
